Hi Jim, thank you, thank you .. it's on the way to wisdom!
'By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest.'
Confucius

Hi Drewzer, thank you, Good to have you stop by.

Thanks Stewart .. here's another reflection
'Beauty is a primeval phenomenon, which itself never makes its appearance, but the reflection of which is visible in a thousand different utterances of the creative mind, and is as various as nature herself.'
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Maurits, thank you .. and on reflection ..
'How strange is the lot of us mortals! Each of us is here for a brief sojourn; for what purpose he knows not, though he senses it. But without deeper reflection one knows from daily life that one exists for other people.'
Albert Einstein

Jim, another moment for reflection!
The world is a looking glass and gives back to every man the reflection of his own face.

Thanks Odon. This is looking down into the water of the lock .. and I flipped the photo over .. and here's another quote:
'What we perceive as reality in the so-called outer world is literally a reflection of, and therefore secondary in importance to, the inner workings of our own consciousness.'
David Gardener

Thanks Robert ..

It's a lovely composition. I'm trying to work out what the big white loops are. They certainly make it an interesting picture and of course they give a soul something to hang his thoughts on.

Hi Tom, thanks. If you turn the photo over and imagine that you may want to climb down into the lock, maybe not what you want to think about but just go with it, and this may lead you one step closer to satisfying your curiosity ;-]

I understood the handrails immediately but am totally lost regarding the 'white bubbles' between them. Looks like it's reflected in the water surface...

You have such a dali-esque feel to many of your reflection shots. Bravo Tony Bravo...
19. Posted by tony on 2/4/2006 12:20:31 AM
Twig, I think the squiggly white line/bubbles between the handrails is a flag pole and flag reflected in the slightly rippling water of the lock. This building is one of the warehouses that would be used for unloading wood from the narrow-boats to TE Dingwalls timber yard, and it's the place that became 'Dingwalls' the music venue opened in the early 1970s.

Hi wes, thank you .. 'dali-esque' .. surreal, an area that interests me, but I know little about. I do know that surrealism developed on from Dada, an anti-art movement that was embraced by the Art establishment, and that surrealists were fascinated by the work of Freud and Jung. Maybe a project here?

Excellent imagery - the rails certainly cause even more confusion to the scene.
Great work as usual
22. Posted by w|e|s on 2/4/2006 6:10:33 PM
that calls for the "Thursday" discussion over a latte and sweets?
23. Posted by tony on 2/5/2006 10:30:50 AM
Aiguille, thank you. I hadn't thought about the rails causing 'confusion' in the image - I like that idea though.
24. Posted by tony on 2/5/2006 10:33:30 AM
Hi wes, we're off to the Britsh Museum this Thursday for meet-up over tea and coffee, and we'll probably bring along some biscuits - and maybe even talk about surrealism and 'making strange'.

You gotta get by a serious veg curry before then...!
26. Posted by tony on 2/6/2006 12:03:02 AM
Hi twig (bulbous!?), definitely, a serious veg curry would go down a treat, but so few places in London do a really good curry.

This is another iconic anotherphotograph image..! The water is nothing like the welcoming swimming pool conjured here!
28. Posted by tony on 2/6/2006 2:29:52 PM
Hi Douglas, the water is just a ripple representation of reality - a mix of what is and what could be.

Hi Paul, thanks .. it's good to have you come by .. how have you been?
32. Posted by tony on 2/12/2006 2:58:34 AM
Swig, hi .. as the lock gates open so the image fades away.
33. Posted by angie on 2/12/2006 2:38:34 PM
What an awesome spot Tony! Beautiful reflection!
34. Posted by tony on 2/12/2006 3:37:13 PM
Angie, hi and thanks - I was trying to evoke a sense of how I related to this place in the past, as well as represent something of how it is now.
